洪武三十一年，明太祖朱元璋駕崩，因長子朱標早逝，傳位予朱標之子朱允炆，是為「建文帝」。
此事引起了以燕王朱棣為首的諸王不滿，允炆為鞏固帝位，大舉削藩，卻被朱棣以「清君側、靖國難」為名起兵，經歷四年戰爭，朱棣最終攻陷南京，允炆失蹤，史稱「靖難之變」。
朱棣稱帝後，改元「永樂」，由於不肯承認之前四年的「建文」年號，雖然朱元璋已死，仍執意把那四年改稱為「洪...
