Even in ancient China this kind of bullying and abuse is appalling and unacceptable. In no way this should be condoned - yet the author wrote all those stuff with ease, and even the abuser got away with it easily, because of reasons. I also find it very unrealistic that a sane human being could fall in love with this childish, ignorant psychopath; there is a fine line between cuteness of kids and twisted, spoiled young minds. Sure, people change, but I don't see the process, the effort, the incentive, the emotional depth - nothing, in short, yet they are so important, for we must - surely we all must - realize how easy it is to leave marks and scars on children's hearts, which are so vulnerable to both love and hate. How one is treated in his/her young years can make or ruin that person's whole life.
